Iowa Region SCCA AutoX #2 2026 @ Hawkeye Downs

We had 65 people enter and compete during the 2nd points event of 2026 hosted at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, IA. The weather was a little questionable before runs started but it turned out to be a great day for AutoX. We did 6 runs for the day split into 4 different heats. We did morning and afternoon runs.

Nats Pax Battle, get it done in 3 runs.

The morning brought stiff competition with all classes but especially with the highly contested Nats Pax class! They had 9 drivers, after 1st runs only Ian had a clean run. 2nd runs were no cleaner only Ian was clean after 2 runs! Nats Pax only gets 3 runs to make it count each event, with everyone dirty except Ian going into run 3 everyone was itching to make it happen. When this happens, do you play it safe? do you go for the hero run? It’s a toss up. Skyler and Max both decided to try for hero runs and both ended up dirty! Mike was next in 5th with a clean run of 53.665 (XA 46.197), Zach’s first dirty run was still fast enough for 4th place with 54.295+1 (DST 46.161). Ian was clean all morning and it locked him into a 3rd place finish with a 55.278 (EST 45.051). Ryan and Keegan cleaned up their first two runs and were able to lock down cone free runs. Ryan with a flyer 51.544 (CAMS 43.657) and Keegan with a nearly unfathomable 49.398 (XB 42.432) sitting in first for Nats Pax!! Great driving everyone!

CAM Battle

CAM had 3 classes with 8 drivers. CAMT winner was Mark Ridder with a 54.906 (44.968) he had to stand on his 2nd run in the morning as the afternoon heat brought more cone challenges. CAMC winner was Ryan Campbell, he was struggling in morning runs to lay down the pace he was aiming for. The cones must’ve been bigger for the CAM drivers, Ryan alone collecting 8 cones total between run 3, 4 and 5. Ryan was battling to get into the 52s but kept hitting cones, his final run was a sneeze shy with a 53.088! That time was no slouch as it was good enough for 7th in PAX and 9th in Raw overall!! CAMS winner Luke Sowers managed to hold off his competition in the Shelby replica.

Xtreme Street Fight

Xtreme Street had 3 classes with 8 drivers as well. XA had 2 AWD heavy hitters show up with their turbo charged 4 cylinders. Nick in the Subaru WRX took the win but it wasn’t locked in until his final run. Ryan’s 55.0 would’ve held out if it wasn’t for Nick finding a clean 53.564 on his final run! XB had 5 drivers in a wide array of cars (sarcasm), 2 Miatas and 1 BRZ haha. The fight for first place in XB again wasn’t decided until the last chance Christian in his Miata standing on his 2nd run for 5th place, Braydon sitting on a scratch 52.447+1 which was good enough for 4th. 2nd and 3rd place was a street fight until the end. Dan and Brett Co-driving Brett’s BRZ were close in the morning if you ignored Dan’s fender liner killing cones he kept hitting. Their 4th and 5th runs in the afternoon had Brett pulling away with the win by over 1 second, but there are 6 runs today anything can happen. Dan being the co-driver gets to go first and warm the tires, his final run of the day finally brings it together clean with a hero run 53.650 1.5 seconds faster than his fastest time earlier in the session. Brett knows he needs to lay down a flyer to beat Dan as is sitting .461 seconds faster after his final run. Brett brings the heat but can’t stay on course and collects a off course for his last and final run of the day handing 2nd place to Dan! (some say he let Dan win, others say Dan threw a banana on course like Donkey Kong and made Brett miss a gate, no one will ever know the truth). 1st place went to Mike in his freshly tuned Turbo NB Miata, with the car working how he wants he was able to really lay down some fast times and focus on, hitting cones. Run 1 +2, Run 2 +3, Run 3 +2, Run 4+2, Run 5 Clean! Run 6 Clean! Run 5 was his fastest with a 53.207 which was good enough for 10th in raw time. The final class in Xtreme Street is XU, it had one driver with Jeff in his Sierra Echo. I’m going to say the size of the Echo was why Jeff was clean all day, the only one in any Xtreme Street Class! Great driving everyone, it’s awesome to see you all get faster each event and hit more and more cones. I’m going to need to order more!

Top Pax and Top Raw

Top 3 in Pax, 3rd Keegan in the XB Exige (42.432), 2nd Ryan Klopf in the CAMS C5 Z06 (42.171), and 1st Place with Top Pax for the day Andrew in the EVX Model 3 (41.641). Crazy Fast times with not soft Pax multipliers. Top 3 in Raw, this event one of the random koozie awards went to 3rd place in Raw which went to Keegan in the XB Exige (49.398), good thing his faster 42 second run was dirty so he could win the Koozie. 2nd place in Raw went to Jeff in the DMod Sprinto (49.359). Fastest Raw time for the day went to Jim in the FMod Novakar with a blistering 48.282 on his only clean run! only car to crack into the 48s clean.
